Save up to 50% off! 2003 Beaulieu Vineyard Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley (reg. price $99.00/Sale Price $49.50) - "Just classic Georges, balanced, elegant and refined, hiding its power under a blanket of controlled finesse. There’s great depth of flavor, with oodles of blackberry, cherry and raspberry, mocha, Chinese plum sauce, soy and spicy oak, wrapped in firm, dry tannins. Just wonderful now, but with the certainty of a long life ahead. Drink–2020." 95 points; Wine Enthusiast 12/31/06. 2005 Beaulieu Vineyard Tapestry Reserve, Napa Valley (reg. price $59.99/Sale Price $34.99) - A blend of all five Bordeaux varieties, the ’05 Tapestry is a soft, rich wine. It’s full-bodied and satiny in red and black cherry, currant, anise and cocoa flavors. Immediately appealing, it should develop well over the next 6–8 years. —92 points; Wine Enthusiast 12/15/08. 2005 Chateau St.
Jean Chardonnay "Belle Terre Vineyard" (reg.
price $29.99/Sale Price
$19.99) - "The 2005 Chardonnay Belle
Terre Vineyard exhibits abundant notes of
honeysuckle, white peaches, and apricots in its
medium to full-bodied personality. With terrific
freshness, purity, and length, it should drink well
for 4-5 years." 93 points, Robert Parker's
Wine Advocate, Issue 178. Paul Laurent Champagne NV "Cuvée du Fondateur" (reg. price $44.99/Sale Price $29.99) - This flagship cuvée of the Champagne house of Paul Laurent located in the south of Epernay expresses their house style; "a subtle marriage of delicacy, freshness and pleasure." It features delicates notes of citrus and orchard fruits and a fresh and delicate finish. A classic aperitif that is also a perfect match for delicately flavored foods such as Sushi or brunch fare. Venica "Collio" Sauvignon 2004; Friuli, Italy (reg. price $24.99/Sale Price $14.99, or $119.88/case - that's $9.99/bottle by the case, a savings of 60%!) - The Venica wines have a loyal following who patiently wait for years for these"cult" wines to come into perfect focus and harmony. Here we have a rare Venica offering that is ready to drink with fresh and focused herbal citrus and white fruit flavors wrapped in a blanket of zesty minerals on its persistent finish. Enjoy this dry, summery white with seafood, light pasta dishes or fresh cheeses. Cantina Nalles Chardonnay 2005; Alto Adige, Italy (reg. price $15.99/bottle, discounted 50% by the case down to $7.99/bt by the case!) - A Chardonnay built for those hot summer months, this offering from Cantina Nalles is lightly honeyed with a soft texture, nice melon fruit and good acidity that refreshes the palate, rather than weighing it down with oak. Great as an aperitif or with grilled fish, chicken and vegetables. Coloma Garnacha Roja 2005 (reg. price $9.99/bottle, discounted 25% by the case down to $7.49/bt. by the case!) - Bodegas Coloma's flamboyant Granacha Roja is replete with aromas and flavors of Framboise, juicy cherry fruit, and spice. Its ripe flavors, jamminess, and soft peppery spice would pair wonderfully with pan-seared duck breast, roasted meats, rich red sauces or savory paella. Star Tree Cabernet Sauvignon 2007; Western Cape, South Africa (reg. price $7.99/bottle, discounted 25% by the case down to $5.99/bt. by the case!) - South African wine has come a long way as of late showing us fantastic wines and great values sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti. Jam packed with dark fruit flavors accented with subtle notes of herbs, terroir and ripe tannins for a complexity that belies the price. Better hurry, while this great value is waiting here for you.
Hedges C.M.S. White
2007, Columbia Valley (reg. price $14.99/Sale
Price $9.99) - "This is almost two thirds
Sauvignon Blanc, one third Chardonnay, and one
percent Marsanne providing the ‘M’ that completes
the name. Fresh and fruity, pure and quaffable, this
fragrant white wine is exactly what this state needs
more of. Nothing wimpy about it, just great, lightly
ripe flavors of citrus and stone fruits, without the
crutch of oak." Wine Enthusiast, 3/1/2009.
Les Cailloux Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2003 Cuvée Centenaire (reg. price $199.00/Sale Price $149.00 net) - "The limited production but exquisite 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Centenaire is a riper, more concentrated version of the 2000 Centenaire. There are about 500 cases of this Grenache-dominated wine produced from a vineyard planted in 1889 with some Syrah and Mourvedre (about 20%) added to the blend. The latter components are aged in small barrels. The wine has a dense ruby/purple-tinged color to the rim, a strikingly pure nose of kirsch liqueur, creme de cassis, and hints of vanilla and espresso. Hitting the palate with full-throttle opulence, superb concentration, fabulous purity, and striking multiple levels of raspberries and black cherry jam, this is a beautifully full-bodied, brilliantly concentrated and structured wine that reveals sweet but abundant tannin and a finish that goes on for close to a minute." 96 points; Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Issue 163. "Dark red color.
Intensely spicy and rich on the nose, with vibrant
aromas of kirsch, raspberry, wild strawberry, anise
and fresh rose. Amazingly concentrated, juicy and
pure in the mouth, with compelling, energetic
flavors of dark raspberry, cherry preserves, poached
rhubarb and rose pastille. The minerally finish,
which features completely buffered tannins, builds
inexorably and goes on and on. This comes from vines
planted in 1889, according to Brunel." 95 points;
Stephen Tanzer's
International Wine Cellar, issue Jan/Feb 06. Regular Price $149.95 Sale Price $125.00/bt.or $599/six pack ($99.83/bt by the six pack) That's right. Dom Perignon for less than $100 when purchased by the six bottle case. We have not seen the price of Dom this low in ten years, so take advantage of this crazy pricing and party like it's 1999! Here's the latest review from Robert
Parker's Wine Advocate: "The
2000 Brut Dom Perignon is a gorgeous, seductive wine
that floats on the palate with remarkable grace.
Toasty aromas meld into freshly cut flowers,
apricots and pears, with sweet notes of mint and
licorice that linger on the long finish. This
perfumed, inviting Dom Perignon is elegance
personified, and in this vintage the wine fully
merits its lofty reputation. According to winemaker
Vincent Chaperone there is only one disgorgement
date for the first release of Dom Perignon, and the
2000 was disgorged over a period of weeks in March
and April, 2007, 2007. Anticipated maturity:
2008-2018.
"The sensational 2004
Shiraz’s inky/purple color is followed by aromas of
graphite, blueberries, and creme de cassis. It
offers wonderful purity, plenty of stuffing, toasty
espresso notes from new oak barrels, admirable
intensity, and a tremendous finish. Drink it over
the next decade. Former winemakers Sarah and Sparky
Marquis have left Shirvington and the wine is now
being made by Kim Johnston. Little has changed,
although the 2004s appear to be more streamlined and
delicate than their 2003 and 2002 counterparts."
95 points, Wine Advocate issue #161. Dry Creek "Endeavour" Cabernet 2003 (reg. price $54.99/sale price $44.99) - “... one of the most ambitious Cabs produced from Dry Creek Valley, and is worth attention. ... it’s young and jammy, explosive in black currant and chocolate flavors, with plenty of smoky oak. Although the tannins are big, they’re completely ripe and sweet…. Drink this Cabernet Sauvignon now with very upscale foods, and it should hold and soften for a decade.” 93 points, Wine Enthusiast, 4/1/2008.
"Resplendent in its new shiny gold label, Krug is a majestic Champagne. Its velvet texture, dominated by mature flavors, is toasty and rich, dense and complex. In the mouth, its beautiful roasted almond, spice and ripe pears all balance impressively. Could the wine be getting even better? No question—this is still one of the greatest nonvintage Champagnes." 95 points, Wine Enthusiast 12/01/08. "A complex,
refined Champagne, with vanilla, coconut, lemon and mineral aromas and
flavors. Fresh and elegant, yet deep and persistent, evoking whole-grain
toast. This dovetails nicely on the lingering finish. Drink now through
2012." 94 points, Wine Spectator,
Nov 30, 2008. Remírez de Ganuza Rioja Old Vines 2003 (Regular price $79.99; Sale Price $199.95/six pack wood case - that's $33.33/bottle! - or $39.99 single bottles.) - "Coconutty oak and raspberry on the nose. Impressively deep, sweet red berry preserve flavors are framed by supple tannins and brightened by a zesty cracked pepper quality. Stains the palate, finishing sweet and with outstanding persistence. The hang time of this is pretty amazing." (93 points, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Sep/Oct 07). "The 2003 Remirez de Ganuza is dark crimson-colored with a brooding bouquet of mineral, blackberry, and lack cherry. Layered, rich, and intense, the wine will evolve for 5-7 years while gaining complexity. It will be at its best from 2015-2025". (93 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Issue 175).

We just love to sell (and drink) good dry
Rosé during the
summer months, and this year we have the largest
selection of Rosé
wines in North Carolina from around the
world! Here are some deliciously dry
Rosé wines
currently in stock, and more will be added as
they arrive throughout the summer:
France Houchart Cotes de Provence Rosé 2008 ($9.99 less 15% by the case) - This is our good friend Jerome Quiot (from Châteauneuf du Pape) wife's estate in Provence, and clearly good winemaking is a family tradition on both sides of the family. This is a gorgeous dry Rosé with the soul of a young Tavel at half the price. Delicate wild red raspberry flavors, a touch of spice and a bright finish make this a perfect match with soft cheeses, quiche and steamed shellfish. Plouzeau "Rive Gauche" Rosé 2008, Loire Valley ($13.99, less 15% by the case) - This storied estate dates back to 1846, and in 1999 current proprietor Marc Plouzeau converted to all biodynamic farming. His Rosé shows bright cherry and strawberry flavors up front, followed by pink grapefruit and pink lemonade on the refreshing finish. A faint herbal note informs you that this is made from Cabernet Franc. Perfect with grilled shrimp on a sun-baked summer afternoon. Domaine les Grands Bois "Cuvee les Trois Soeurs" Rosé 2008, Côtes du Rhône ($13.99) - Although the small estate of Marc Besnardeau is best know for their deeply colored, ripe, robust reds he needed something to drink with lighter fare on those hot southern Rhône summer nights. Not wanting to rely on his neighbors for a refreshing alternative, he made this wonderfully fresh, dry Rosé from many of the same classic southern Rhône varietals that he uses for his acclaimed reds. Perhaps the perfect summer sipper. Grande Cassagne Rosé 2008, Costières de Nîmes ($9.99) - From the western edge of the Rhône Valley where the locals drink Rosé with breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything in between, especially in the warmth of the summer months. A blend of 60% Grenache, 35% Syrah, and 5% Mourvèdre sourced from forty-plus year old vines. It exudes bright red fruits and a strawberry perfume. Fermented a short time on its skins, it retains an electric pink color, soaring aromatics, and a fresh, dry finish. Chateau de Ségries Tavel 2008, Rhone ($19.99) - The appellation of Tavel, located just southwest of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in southern France, makes only Rosé wines which are often regarded as the amongst the finest Rosés in the world. Aromas and flavors of strawberries, raspberries and white flowers emerge from this elegant yet intense rosé. The spicy finish is dry, fresh and impressively lengthy. Chateau Mourgues du Gres Les Galets Rosé 2007, Costières de Nîmes ($16.99) - This estate is blessed with the same galet stones, literally 'roller' or large round stones, found in the vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This helps Francois Collard craft Syrah and Grenache with the great intensity found in the wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape but at a price point found in Costières de Nîmes. The Rosé has intense and focused ripe strawberry and cherry fruit, yet is completely dry. Try elegant Rosé with grilled shrimp or goat cheese salad. Louis Perdrier Brut Rosé NV, Cote D'Or ($9.99, less 25% by the case) - This medium-bodied bargain sparkler features refreshingly delicate scents and flavors of red fruits that leads to a nice, dry finish with a fine effervescence. Made from Pinot Noir blended with a cluster of other varietals it's an altogether amazing value to pair with hors d'oeuvres, smoked salmon, on its own or your next get together. Boizel Brut Rosé NV, Epernay ($62.99/750ml; $35.99/375ml) - "Dominated by Pinot Noir (50%), this is mid rather than pale salmon pink and boasts a vibrant, frothing mousee. Aromas of white flowers burst forth and there's an elegant touch of well-judged sweetness. The finish is a little toasty and the balance superb." Decanter Magazine, May 2008.
Tegernseerhof Zweigelt Rosé 2008 ($12.99 less 15% by the case) - Another amazing effort by Martin Mittelbach. Brilliant, almost neon pinkish color. Fresh red berry aroma burst from the glass, with round strawberry/red raspberry flavors, full texture and richness yet finishes delightfully dry & crisp. Rosé does not get any better than this from any region or winemaker. Michlits Pinot Noir Frizzante Rosé 2007, Burgenland ($15.99) - Juicy, fresh & fruity with a pure expression of Pinot Noir. Mouthfilling Cremant-like bubbles are lively yet soft, allowing the delicate red berry flavors to shine through to the clean lively finish. Perfect on its own or a delicious complement to light hors d’oeuvre or Sunday brunch. Anton Bauer Rosé 2008, Wagram ($11.99 less 15% by the case) - We thought we might have topped out on the number of Rosé's for the store, but after we tried Tony Bauer's, we just had to make room for one more. It has a deep rich color with very expressive, floral notes and round, red berry fruit flavors. The finish is fresh and long with more body and complexity than many Rosé's. It is perfect with roasted vegetables and grilled fish or pork. Hillinger Secco Sparkling Rosé ($15.99 less 15% by the case) - 100% Pinot Noir crafted into a sparkling wine made in the Prosecco style, with delicate aromas of fresh strawberries and red berries which follow through on the palate. The flavors are beautifully balanced with a vibrant and refreshingly dry finish. Beautiful color and package. Make any day a celebration! Steindorfer Zweigelt Eiswein Rosé 2004, Burgenland ($34.99/375ml) - This is one of the most elegant dessert wines on our shelves. Richly textured and elegantly balanced with ripe red fruits, lush round mid-palate and a fruity, slightly spicy long finish. Delicious and different, serve on its own or with berries and fresh cream or simple custards.
Robert Sinskey Vin Gris of Pinot Noir Rosé 2008 ($26.99) - Whole cluster pressed 100% Pinot Noir adds complexity and weight to this dry full flavored Rosé. This is not a tank bled Rosé; the fruit is grown, pressed and fermented just for this wine. The finish is dry, fresh and clean with a touch of spice and berry. Excellent quality. Copain "Tous Ensemble" Rosé 2008, Anderson Valley ($14.99) - Wells Guthrie's goal with his Tous Ensemble, 'All Together,' series from Copain is to craft east going and food friendly wines from some of the best organically farmed vineyards in the appellation. The Rosé from Anderson Valley features fresh flavors of strawberry, cherry and watermelon rind matched to a crisp, clean, lively dry finish. Great refreshing wine for the warm days and meals of summer. A Donkey & Goat Grenache Rosé 2007, McDowell Valley ($22.99) - Raleigh native and Broughton graduate Tracey Brandt and her husband Jared bring you this great dry Rosé crafted entirely from Grenache, modeled after the great Tavel's of the Rhône Valley in France. Amazingly ripe with wonderful round flavors, intense strawberry/cherry fruit and a crisp clean finish. Great with green salad with a light vinagrette, goat cheese and roasted peppers. Adelsheim Pinot Noir Rosé 2007, Willamette Valley ($19.99) - Fans of Dave Adelsheim's Pinot Noirs know that he crafts some of the best Pinots in Oregon, and now he adds a deliciously dry Rosé to his portfolio. Floral aromas followed by raspberry fruit and strawberry cream and ripe melon, bright acidity and peach/apricot notes on the dry refreshing finish. Pair with prosciutto wrapped melon, grilled shrimp, and fresh goat cheese. Elk Cove Pinot Noir Rosé 2008, Willamette Valley ($16.99) - Elk Cove's Pinot Noir Rose is what summer's all about; clean, fragrant and showing freshness with strawberry fruit. Enjoy this crisp, light, simply refreshing wine all by itself on a warm sunny day or pair it with succulent shellfish or roast chicken. Bon appétit!
Muga Rioja Rosado 2008, Spain ($11.99) - This luscious full-flavored rose from Rioja is the only Rosé in the store not fermented in stainless, but in large neutral wooden vats. This lends a delicacy to the fresh flavors of raspberry, peach and citrus it offers. It pairs perfectly with grilled fish, chicken, Spanish tapas and spicy Asian cuisine. Mulderbosch Cabernet Rosé 2008; Stellenbosch, South Africa ($13.99) - This is the first release of 2008 Rosé and honestly we couldn't be more thrilled about this effort from our friends at Mulderbosch. Wonderful dark berried fruit fills your mouth while the acidity keeps everything in check. This will make for a great versatile food wine for most morsels at a summer picnic or to be enjoyed on its own. Graham Beck Brut Rosé 2006 ($19.99) - This South African sparkling Rosé, made from 82% Pinot Noir and 18% Chardonnay, is ideal for parties or dinner events. Its rich hue is accompanied by a complex bouquet red berry fruit and a fine creamy mousse. Enjoy as an aperitif, pair with light hors d'ouevers, salmon, pork tenderloin or rare tuna. Vecchia Torre "Leverano" Rosato 2008 ($8.99) - From the heel of Italy's boot this deep pink Rosé is produced from Negromaro with a touch of Malvasia Nera. Bursting with intense aromas of ripe, red berry and tropical fruits, the fruit-rich, palate is firm with good grip and length on its dry finish. Better yet, it goes with practically everything. Try it on a picnic, or with seafood, ham, gumbo, and great just by itself.
